Special Board Meeting: November 22, 2022

I want to thank every constituent that reached out to me and my fellow trustees as we prepared for the Special Meeting Board for the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board last night. It is an important part of our democratic system to hear from our constituents in a productive and respectful manner.

The Special Board Meeting for the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board took place on November 22, 2023. I attended the Special Board Meeting virtually for the entire duration.

During the presentation from Doctor Samson other trustees posed the questions I had prepared in advance. Doctor Samson gave a thoughtful and concise presentation.

Once we entered the debate portion regarding the exact wording of the motion, I was on the list to speak but the meeting was called to a close at 10:30 PM. I voted to extend this meeting to 11:00 PM, but it was clear more than 30 minutes would have been needed to complete the debate last night.

The mover of the motion was in the process of proposing an amendment and indicated additional prepared amendments to the motion. My vote will heavily depend on the amendments that will be put forward.

The following is an excerpt from my election priorities with one addition in bold. I intend to adhere as closely as I can to this promise:

“Keeping students healthy and our schools open is the top priority. I will advocate that schools extend the mask mandate when appropriate, keep the enhanced cleaning requirements and improve ventilation systems.”

Information about the continued debate of this motion will be shared on the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board website as the next steps are determined.

Please note, opinions expressed here are entirely my own and do not reflect an official position of the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board or the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board of Trustees.
