Board Meeting: September 26, 2023
The Board Meeting for the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board took place on September 26, 2023. Staff brought forward four reports with three recommendations and a Trustee brought forward one notice of motion for discussion.
I voted in favour of the recommendations in Report 23-048, Riverside South Attendance Boundary, Report 23-061, New Findlay Creek Elementary School Study - Consultation Plan Approval, and Notice of Motion, Re: Air Quality Standards and Guidance for Public School Buildings. All three items were previously discussed at the Committee of the Whole Meeting on September 12, 2023. I voted in favour of the recommendations in Report No. 23-068, Appointment of Association Representatives and Alternates to the Special Education Advisory Committee. This report sought approval to appoint local association representatives and alternates to the Special Education Advisory Committee for the duration of the remaining term of the Board, 26 September 2023 to 14 November 2026. Associations for appointed included representatives from VOICE for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children and the Learning Disabilities Association of Ottawa-Carleton. The recommendations were carried.
The Memo from the Deputy Minister of Education on the Disposition of Surplus Property and Schools in Shared Sites was brought forward for discussion. This memo outlined priority regulations and information on Ontario’s Regulatory Registry that is posted for public comment. Specifically, there are two items for discussion:
Disposition of Surplus School Board Property: This regulation amendment would provide a framework for property not required by school boards to meet current pupil accommodation needs or pupil accommodation needs of the next 10 years, to better leverage surplus school board property for public education and other provincial priorities. Schools on Shared Use Sites: The proposed regulation would set out any requirements that a school board must meet to acquire a school site for pupil accommodation where the site would be shared with an entity other than another school board, a municipality or child care centre.
