Committee of the Whole: March 7, 2023
The Committee of the Whole Meeting for the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board took place on March 7, 2023. During the Committee of the Whole meeting, staff brought forward two reports with two recommendations and a Trustee brought forward a notice of motion for discussion.
I voted in favour of the recommendation on the Policy P.029.SCO Field Trips, Excursions, Educational Tours, and Student Exchanges. The proposed policy revision includes a statement regarding the duty to accommodate all students and eliminate barriers.
I voted in favour of the motion on Recycling Programs in the OCDSB. The motion implements a recycling and composting program at every active school and administration site by the end of the 2023-2024 school year. The motion highlights the school board using these programs as an opportunity to engage students in hands-on learning about composting and recycling in age-appropriate ways by the end of the 2024-2025 school. The motion was passed at the Committee of the Whole Meeting and will now be brought to the Board Meeting on March 28, 2023, for the final vote.
I voted in favour of the recommendation on the Revisions to Policy P.019.GOV Special Education Advisory Committee. The policy appoints Indigenous representatives to the Special Education Advisory Committee and supports the District’s commitment to promoting and protecting Indigenous rights, human rights, and equity as well as implementing sound governance structures.
