Committee of the Whole – Budget: December 11, 2023

The Committee of the Whole Budget for the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board took place on December 11, 2023. Staff brought forward one presentation for discussion.

A presentation on the budget process for 2024 to 2025 was brought forward for discussion. A review of how school boards are funded, the daily enrolment for the school board and the planning timelines for the budget this year were presented. Unfortunately, the link to the presentation is not publicly available but can be viewed on the recording here. During the discussion, I asked one question (timestamp: 1:06:10):

  • Are there any programs or any line items in the budget that we are currently worried about that might be overspending on or we are not going to be able to afford coming up to this next school year?

    • There are areas of risk in every budget, and it is not uncommon to have areas of risk in particular in this particular budget, OT replacement costs are an estimate and we can see that particular line item has grown over the past couple of years within this organization, so we do have to track and make sure that we make the appropriate adjustments.

Please note, that the opinions expressed here are entirely my own and do not reflect an official position of the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board or the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board of Trustees. Please note answers from staff are paraphrased, the recording can be found here if you would like to watch the entire meeting.
