Board Meeting: October 30, 2023
The Board Meeting for the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board took place on October 30, 2023. Staff brought forward two reports with one recommendation and Trustees brought forward two notices of motion for discussion.
Through the consent agenda items, I voted in favour of three recommendations:
Motion for the creation of the Indigenous Student Trustee.
Motion for writing a letter requesting the appointment of an Urban Indigenous Trustee.
Report 23-073, Approval of Revisions to Policy P.107.SCO Naming of Schools and Education Support Facilities and Opening Ceremonies.
I voted in favour of the Board Work Plan for 2023 to 2024. I highlighted some concerns during the discussion (starting at 45:59):
I see under strategies and opportunities we have said we are going to develop metrics to support measurement and monitoring of strategic priorities to support student learning and well-being. I am concerned that it is not aligning and we do not have the timelines of when we will have these metrics presented or a framework of when we will have it come back to the board or Committee Whole. I would like staff to respond to how we will be reporting back to the public on the progress of this plan.
We are working on a new Student Achievement Plan and that will provide a framework for reporting back. We know some of the data sets will be used to measure progress because we use those data sets regularly. We are also planning a Trustee PD session on equity and data. That will be useful for providing feedback. You will a series of reports that have different metrics associated with the Board Workplan.
Is there a reason we have not committed in the work plan when we will be coming back to report on the different items?
We reported regularly in the previous Strategic Plan and we are setting up the schedule now.
