Board Meeting: March 25, 2025
The Board Meeting for the Ottawa-Carleton District School took place on March 25, 2025, with me as chair. Staff brought forward 5 reports with 3 recommendations for discussion.
Coming out of the Committee of the Whole Budge on March 18, 2025, I voted in favour of the recommendations in Report 25-013 on the Staffing Plan for 2025 to 2026. The staffing plan is the first step of the annual budgetary process and represents approximately 55% of the total operating budget. Academic staffing includes all school-based, central elementary, central secondary, principals and vice-principals. In addition, discretionary positions such as English as a Second Language, special education, and central instructional coaches. Coming out of the Community Member Recognition Awards Selection Committee, I voted in favour of the recommendation that the Board of Trustees pause the committee while the committee considers recommendations for changes to the program regarding its longer-term viability and sustainability. Due to staffing and resourcing implications, the Board of Trustees want to reevaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of the awards program. The recommendation was carried.
I voted in favour of the recommendations in Report 25-017, Naming of the New Riverside South School. The District is building a new secondary school in Riverside South, at the corner of Earl Armstrong and Spratt Road. A key step in establishing a new school is the school naming process. The proposed name of the school is Riverside South Secondary School. Riverside means a place where travellers on the Great River of Life can go to rest, re-energize and plan the next steps, taking them forward in a good way as they continue their earthly journey. The recommendations were carried.
