Board Meeting: January 31, 2023
The Board Meeting for the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board took place on January 31, 2023. Staff brought forward two reports with two recommendations and one Trustee brought forward a notice of motion. All three items came from the Committee of the Whole Meeting on January 17, 2023:
The Study Consultation Plan and Timeline for the New Riverside South Secondary School.
The Purchase of New Portable Classrooms
The hiring of a Jewish Equity Coach.
I voted in favour of all three recommendations and all three motions passed. For more information on the specifics of the recommendations, please refer to my blog post on the Committee of the Whole Meeting here.
Staff also summarized the Trustees’ priorities for the 2023 to 2027 Strategic Plan. The priorities I previously outlined were:
Implement and expand the recommendations from the Right to Read report including literacy in school.
Create a safe inclusive community for students, staff, educators and parents.
Report back on community member feedback from consultations.
The school board is in the process of developing a new strategic plan for 2023 to 2027. The goal is to create a meaningful plan for OCDSB students, families, staff, and community members. There are multiple ways to share your priorities with both me and the school board for what you want to see in your strategic plan. More information can be found on the webpage here.
The evening wrapped up with questions from my trustee colleagues on Grade 9 and Grade 10 exams, noise limits within the distance of schools and a plan to tackle Islamophobia.
